THÉRÈSE OF LISIEUX

Patron of the little way, small acts of love, missionaries, florists, those with serious illness.

Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, also known as Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face, was a French Discalced Carmelite nun. Born in 1873, she entered the monastery at the exceptionally young age of fifteen and lived a life of obscurity and prayer. She died of tuberculosis in 1897 at the age of twenty-four. Her spiritual autobiography, 'The Story of a Soul,' published after her death, outlined her 'little way' of spiritual childhood. This path emphasizes performing small, ordinary acts with great love and complete trust in God's mercy, rather than seeking grand penances. For Catholics today, Saint Thérèse is a powerful model of humility and trust, demonstrating that holiness is accessible to everyone in the circumstances of daily life. She was declared a Doctor of the Church in 1997 for her profound insights into the faith. She is the patron saint of missionaries, florists, and those with serious illnesses, including AIDS sufferers.
A PRAYER TO THÉRÈSE OF LISIEUX

Heavenly Father, through the intercession of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, I ask for the grace to walk her little way. Help me to trust in Your love completely and to find opportunities for small, hidden acts of charity in my daily life. May I serve You with the simplicity and confidence of a child, offering all I do for the salvation of souls and the glory of Your name. Through Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
