PADRE PIO OF PIETRELCINA

Patron of physical pain, chronic illness, spiritual struggles, confession, adolescents.

Padre Pio, born Francesco Forgione in Pietrelcina, Italy in 1887, entered the Capuchin Franciscan order as a young man and was ordained a priest in 1910. He is widely known for bearing the visible stigmata, the wounds of Christ, for fifty years, from 1918 until his death in 1968. His life was marked by intense prayer, patient endurance of suffering, and a dedicated ministry in the confessional, where he offered spiritual guidance to countless souls. Many Catholics today seek his intercession for strength in times of physical or emotional distress, seeing in his life a witness to redemptive suffering and unwavering faith. He is the patron saint of those suffering from physical pain, chronic illness, and spiritual struggles.

Grant us peace in our hearts and healing in our bodies and souls. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
