MARY, MOTHER OF GOD

Patron of mothers, motherhood, children, family, pregnancy.

Mary of Nazareth, the Mother of Jesus Christ, is a central figure in Catholic faith and devotion. Chosen by God for her profound faith and humility, she consented to become the mother of the Savior at the Annunciation. Her life, as recounted in the Gospels, was one of unwavering discipleship, from the joy of the Nativity to the profound sorrow of witnessing her Son's crucifixion. She was present with the Apostles at Pentecost, praying for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the nascent Church. Catholic tradition, based on Scripture, honors Mary as the first and greatest disciple, a model of perfect cooperation with God's grace. She is venerated not as a deity, but as the highest of all saints, a powerful intercessor who presents the needs of humanity to her Son. Her compassionate heart is seen as having a particular care for mothers, children, and families. The Church entrusts all its needs and the cause of peace to her maternal intercession. Her primary patronage encompasses all Christians and the entire Church.
A PRAYER TO MARY, MOTHER OF GOD

Heavenly Father, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, your humble servant, we ask for your grace and protection. As she nurtured your Son, may she guide and comfort all mothers and families. In our times of sorrow and need, may her example of faith inspire us to trust in your divine will. We place our prayers and hopes into her hands, asking that she present them to you. Grant us the strength to follow her example of discipleship. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
