LUCY OF SYRACUSE

Patron of the blind, eye disorders, writers, those in spiritual darkness, light in winter.

Saint Lucy of Syracuse was a virgin martyr who died during the Diocletian persecution in the early fourth century. Her name, meaning 'light', reflects her witness to Christ amid darkness. Tradition holds that she consecrated her virginity to God and distributed her wealth to the poor, which led to her betrayal and martyrdom. Legends speak of her eyes being gouged out before her death, though these accounts are later additions. She is venerated for her steadfast faith and courage. Today, Catholics honor her as a model of purity and resilience, especially during Advent as a herald of Christ, the true Light. She is the patron saint of the blind, those with eye disorders, and of light in winter.
A PRAYER TO LUCY OF SYRACUSE

Heavenly Father, through the intercession of Saint Lucy, your faithful servant who bore witness to the light of Christ in times of darkness, we ask for clarity of vision, both physical and spiritual. Grant us strength in our trials and purity of heart. May her example guide us toward your eternal light. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
