JOSEPH

Patron of fathers, fatherhood, workers, carpenters, the dying.

Saint Joseph, the husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the foster father of Jesus Christ, is a central figure in the Christian narrative of the Holy Family. Though the Gospels say little about him directly, they portray him as a righteous man, a carpenter by trade, who obediently followed God's will in protecting and providing for Mary and Jesus. His life exemplifies quiet faith, humility, and dedicated service. He is honored as the patron of the universal Church, fathers, workers, and families. Many Catholics seek his intercession for employment, home life, and a peaceful death, as tradition holds he died in the presence of Jesus and Mary. Saint Joseph is the patron saint of fathers, workers, and a happy death.
A PRAYER TO JOSEPH

O God, who entrusted the Holy Family to the care of Saint Joseph, grant that through his intercession we may imitate his virtues of faithfulness and quiet strength. Help all fathers to lead their families in holiness, and assist all workers in their labors. Through Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
