DOMINIC DE GUZMÁN

Patron of astronomers, the falsely accused, preachers, students of theology, the rosary.

Saint Dominic de Guzmán was born around 1170 in Caleruega, Spain. He was a canon regular of the Cathedral of Osma before founding the Order of Preachers, commonly known as the Dominicans, in the early 13th century. Moved by the spiritual needs of his time and the challenge of the Albigensian heresy, he established a religious order dedicated to preaching, study, and evangelical poverty. The Dominican order emphasized a balanced life of prayer, community, and intellectual rigor, with a mission to proclaim the Gospel through word and example. For Catholics today, Saint Dominic remains a model of apostolic zeal and a champion of orthodox teaching. His life inspires a commitment to truth, pursued through both deep contemplation and active ministry. He is the patron saint of astronomers, the falsely accused, and preachers.
A PRAYER TO DOMINIC DE GUZMÁN

Heavenly Father, through the intercession of your faithful preacher Saint Dominic, we ask for the grace to seek and proclaim your truth with courage and charity. Grant us clarity of mind and purity of heart, that we may discern your will in times of confusion. May his example of prayer and study inspire all who teach and learn the faith. We ask this through Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
