CATHERINE OF SIENA

Patron of illness, fire, miscarriage, the bullied, Italy.

Catherine of Siena was born in 1347 in Siena, Italy, and joined the Third Order of Saint Dominic as a young woman. She was known for her intense prayer life, mystical experiences, and dedication to serving the poor and sick. Catherine played a significant role in Church affairs, urging Pope Gregory XI to return the papacy from Avignon to Rome and working for peace among warring Italian city-states. Her spiritual writings, especially 'The Dialogue,' earned her the title Doctor of the Church. Today, she is venerated as a model of faith, courage, and perseverance, and an intercessor for those facing physical or spiritual trials. She is the patron saint of Italy, those suffering from illness, and people who experience bullying or miscarriage.
