ANNE

Patron of grandmothers, mothers, expectant mothers, unmarried women, miners.

Saint Anne is honored in Christian tradition as the mother of the Virgin Mary and the grandmother of Jesus Christ. While the Gospels do not name her, her story is preserved in early Christian writings such as the Protoevangelium of James, which describes her and her husband Joachim as a devout but childless couple who received the promise of Mary's birth in their old age. Veneration of Saint Anne grew significantly in the Middle Ages, and she became a beloved figure for families and mothers. For Catholics today, Saint Anne is a powerful intercessor for family life, offering an example of trust in God's providence and a special closeness to the Holy Family. She is the primary patron saint of grandmothers, mothers, and expectant mothers.
